One foot in history
It may sound like a cliché but it’s true. History is important, maybe especially so when you live and work in the same place as one’s ancestors. In the soil, on the farm, in every thing, one is reminded of what was and that people have existed in the same place, working with similar things every day.
I enjoy decorating the accommodation rooms with things from our family and from the area. What a treasure when I inherited 20 woven rugs from our neighbour who lived in her entire 93 years in the house where she was born.
My grandfather’s mum started growing strawberries. In the 1950s, the family was one of the Bohuslän region’s largest growers of dill. Where did all the dill go? To the herring industry, probably. It is still an important industry today. We have also grown corn, sugar peas, melons and much more, but strawberries and potatoes are the most important crops. How lucky, that everyone wants Swedish strawberries for midsummer! It’s the best thing we know, our family eats unbelievable amounts of strawberries each day of the season. It is so short ad one must make the most of it!
