In Tyfta, strawberries have been grown since Mats Lekander’s grandmother Emilia farmed them for delivery to Marstrand before the Second World War.
The price was very high at that time. Mats’ father Allan Andersson continued growing the popular berry, and since the 1970s, the strawberry farm is in Mats’ hands.
It wasn’t long before he extended the variety of berries to include black currants (1979) and raspberry (mid-80s).
Dahli is the variety that ripens first in the season. Verdi and Sonsation ripens middle of the season and last out is Faith. We like them all and does not choose any particular sort for jam etc
We love raspberries and have tried growing different varietys but it doesn’t get quite right. So no raspberries this season either, lets hope for another year …
Currants come in many colours, but the black ones are the tastiest and we think the variety Ben Tron is the tastiest of them all.
We’ve grown them since 1999 and are planning to extend our fields as the berries are highly sought-after.
